Looking Ahead
Whatever you are, be a good one."

This coming week you will see our 3rd Quarter Interims coming home with students. I wanted to let you know some new information about the grading that has changed for reading. District wide changes include the reading grade being weighted. This means our weekly tests are broken down into three sections for fourth grade. Comprehension will be 50% - vocabulary and word analysis will be 40% - and 10% will be for "other" (this category will be used at the teacher's discretion). This breakdown will help us determine strengths and weaknesses at a more detailed level. If you have any questions about this new breakdown of the reading grades, I will be glad to talk to you about it.
We had a fabulous time at our Valentine's Party! Many thanks to all the parents who helped make it a success!

Spelling Bee Update!
Quote: "A single twig breaks, but the bundle of twigs is strong. " Tecumseh
We are the proud class that would like to announce Merwin's Spelling Bee winner came from our homeroom. Priya Patel won the Spelling Bee and will now compete in the next level. We are so proud of her and our runner-up David Jackson!
When we return next week, we will continue where we left off and hopefully finish up our skills and strategies for the story: How Night Came from the Sea. Reading myths has been a bit of a challenge for us so I am hoping to continue this genre as the year continues. If anyone has a favorite myth, please bring it in to share with the class.
Have a great weekend!

Welcome Back!
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great, relaxing break. It did not take us long to back in the swing of things. We are not going to have spelling this week! In reading class we are reading about weather, hurricanes, and a story titled, A Man Who Named the Clouds. Our focus skills in reading will be how to use Graphic Sources and Important Ideas to better understand what we read.
This week my hopes are that we get started with students posting information for this blog! Time is never on our side! :)
