SORRY FOR THE DELAY!!

We now have a plan to keep this blog running on time! My students have decided they can help out with this weekly project.  So, starting next week they will be writing the weekly updates on this blog and I will be posting any photos or videos as they are taken.  This is going to be a great adventure for our group!

Yesterday we went to Fort Ancient to learn about the first people of Ohio.  We had a blast outside learning how to throw an arrow using an atlatl  and playing "Double Ball".  Thank you to all the parent volunteers for taking time from your day and spending it with us.  We really appreciate your help!

Check back next week for our student weekly writing!  Have a great weekend and remember next week we are at school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

COSI came to Merwin!

Quote:  "Whether you think you can, or think your can't, you are right!'  Henry Ford

What a week!  This week COSI came to Merwin and we examined the world of Ohio wildlife.  We were free to roam around the gymnasium checking out different stations that dealt with caring for wildlife  as well as preserving the different habitats found in our state.  We had a great time!  Thank you PTO for bringing COSI to our school!

This week we are going to investigate the qualities of the Southwest by reading about Yosemite National Park.  We will be reading many different expository texts as we learn to compare and contrast. I love the stories we will be reading this week and I am sure our class will as well.

Coming Soon....  My classess  will soon be learning how to use a wiki to communicate with each other online.  I will be showing students how to read and respond to prompts about our stories using a secure wiki site.  I will send the link home so families can check us out!  Everyone loves this new way to communicate about what we are reading!

Thanks for checking in!

Walk-A-Thon Friday!

Quote: "Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence -- is the key to unlocking our potential."
Winston Churchill

Tomorrow is our Walk-A-Thon and everyone is ready to walk our way through each country learning and excersing!  Thank you to everyone who participated in raising money for our school.

Next week we will be completing SAT testing.  Parents can help by making sure children get a good night sleep and eat breakfast before school.  We will have a spelling quiz next Thursday, so continue to work on those words I sent home today.

Have a great weekend!

Week Three Here We Come!

Quote of the Week
"Children are our most valuable natural resources."  Herbert Hoover

This week we are going to focus on questioning and author's purpose.  Please check the Family Letter that will come home on Monday or Day One of a new unit.   Here you will find vocabulary and spelling words for the week along with the target skills we use to improve comprehension.  We hope you find this letter helpful as we work through our new reading series.  Have a great weekend.  Ms. Davis :)

What a week!

This week was fabulous!  I am very impressed with my students and how excited they are to get started with their fourth grade year.  We spent time reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones.  This year we have students new to Merwin so we made sure to make them feel comfortable with routines and the ins and outs of our school.  I look forward to week two and introducing Reading Street to everyone.

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Welcome!
I am very excited to get this  year off to a great start.  I want to thank all parents who were able to attend Open House.  It was a great turn out.  I look forward to meeting everyone on Tuesday and we plan to be busy getting to know each other the first few days.  Have a great Holiday Weekend.  Happy Reading!
